Kaye Johnson was a dedicated member of the CASA-CAN Board of Directors for three years. She left the Board in September of 2003 when she and her husband moved back to Burns, Oregon. Prior to living in Great Falls, Kaye was involved with a CASA program in Hawaii. On April 16, 2004, Kaye was tragically killed in an automobile accident. In the words of her husband, Dave, “I look back and realize how much we all lost on that tragic day. Kaye made such wonderful contributions to this world. A wonderful mother to my children, a lifetime mate and partner, an administrator for social programs, a surrogate mother for countless youth, a business woman, a community leader, a source of inspiration and energy for her family, friends, community, church and co-workers.”
Kaye was a strong supporter of the valuable contributions that CASA volunteers make in our community. In memory of Kaye, Dave Johnson has awarded $1000 to CASA-CAN for a memorial to his beloved wife. “The award will allow Kaye to continue to live on in the minds and hearts of children and parents in the Great Falls area.” The award will be presented each your for the next 20 years to a deserving CASA volunteer. CASA-CAN will choose each April , a volunteer who embodies the characteristics that Kaye felt were crucial for a CASA guardian ad litem, to receive the “Kaye Johnson Memorial Award.”
