PROGRAM COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:
The Program Coordinator provides supervision and support to GAL volunteers. The Program Coordinator ensures that children involved with the program receive sound advocacy and early permanency planning. The Program Coordinator is responsible for the training and supervision of volunteers and the supervision and coordination of cases. The Program Coordinator is hired by the Board of Directors on the recommendation of the Executive Director. The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director who is responsible for his/her performance evaluations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Demonstrate strong skills in public speaking, organization, and interpersonal relationships. An understanding of volunteers, child abuse and neglect, families in crisis, knowledge as a guardian ad litem and other social service skills preferred. Computer literate. Must complete GAL volunteer training course within one year of employment.
DUTIES:
VOLUNTEER TRAINING:
Coordinate all volunteer recruitment. May be required to develop and distribute volunteer recruitment materials and evaluate their effectiveness.
Assure that screening procedures are completed on each volunteer.
Keep training manuals and curriculum updated.
Schedule, coordinate and attend all training classes for new volunteers, acting either as moderator or presenter.
Arrange and attend swearing-in of new volunteers.
VOLUNTEER SUPERVISION:
Maintain at least monthly contact with each volunteer.
Provide supervision, assistance, and consultation for volunteers as needed and when requested.
Schedule, coordinate and attend all on-going in-service training for all volunteers, acting either as moderator or presenter.
Implement and maintain tracking systems for both volunteer and caseload files through COMET and maintain any other volunteer records as directed by the Executive Director.
Oversee all volunteer matches and mentors.
Conduct volunteer evaluations.
Approve all reports before they are filed with the Court.
CASE MANAGEMENT:
Review new cases and assign volunteers.
Initiate court orders for assignment of volunteer to case.
Attend court hearings when possible and maintain master calendar of court dates.
Fill in for volunteers at court dates, staffings, hearings, and meetings if required.
Maintain case files in office.
Monitor and disseminate current information on laws, books, and articles of interest to the volunteers.
Consult with Executive Director about problems and concerns.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:
Attend workshops and conferences for the development of programs for volunteers, as they are available.
Assist in public education about the GAL program; i.e. community groups, presentations.
Assist in volunteer recognition/appreciation events.
Assist with the newsletter as needed.
Supervise and maintain the program library.
Provide office coverage.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or the Board of Directors.

$11-12 per hour DOE
